Sound in game

Video on Nickys blog.

Sounds ok. Could definitely find a better sound. If only one of us was musicly inclined we would be able to simply make our own.

Will keep working on it. Some reason when in game it makes odd clicking noises as well. A tad odd.

Building Modelling

Em’s been creating the buildings in 1x1x.5 blocks so that she can stack them.

Three i have made.

My to do list now:

Nay – more sounds, mock up points animation, model buildings.

Fan sound worked well in the game. But we all decided it needs to be mixed up a bit. Have found some more fan sound options online. - didnt sound right having the same sound over again so will try having two or three different fan sounds.

Have found possible backing track music. Will give team a listen to this next group meeting to get every bodies  opinions.

Also found possible power up / extra points sound (could play when he flys between small gap or really close to building for extra points). Will let them have a listen of these as well. Want to make sure im on the right track with the type of sounds we are looking for.

Might have found stone smashing sound as well. This sound is very difficult to find as it needs to be quite a thud as well as a smash. Am struggling most with finding this sound.

Fan Sound

Found a very good fan sound to use from the website freesxf.com. Steven will put it into the game.

Sounds

Have spent hours looking for sounds and a backing track for our game. I have found a few possibilities but nothing that I think completely fits our game. Im also not sure what our group actually wants for the music but will continue looking.

Quick instructions page done

I know these placeholders dont exactly do justice for our game at the moment. But I cant make final interface designs until we have the cities and mason finished. This is because I will be using renders of these as the backgrounds etc.

However once I do have these assets it shouldnt take to long to put together as I know the exact layouts in which I am going to put together.

Sounds

I have put together some sounds. Cant upload them to blog but so far have some form of backing music, a couple of smash sounds to choose from and a gust of wind for when he flys through the fans for the boost.

Idea for main menu title.

I feel the text should be in 3D as its a 3D game. Obviously would look much better if we had all the final assets. But I then thought we could possibly add wings to the title - I like this idea and I think could look rather cool if done right. Will keep playing around with it.

Nuclear Plant

Not sure if we will use or not but could produce bad fog / mist - could kill mason if flown into.

Over Bridge examples

Looked up both modern and old school over bridge. We are going to go with a modern style one. Will fit the idea of mason wanting to leave the city that has changed over time.

Gaming is now main focus

Over the last week I have been incredibly busy with my other papers. However, I am now able to focus completely on gaming for the next week. So will certainly get my rolls done.

Group Meeting - New to do list (stole from nickys blog).

Caught up for a group meeting today
Guy has got the new model working in the game with the animations – yay!
Steven has added a “callibrate” button which allows the user to set the angle they hold the iPad at to play the game.
Tim has got the normal map working on the models – turns out it was me and Em’s fault – we provded texture maps and bump maps rather than normal maps.
Ney has started looking into some sound (role change as Em’s workload got big)
Em has figurd  out how to generate the city and power ups along a path – yay!
Nicky has edited the model (with the groups approval) and looked into some cityscape ideas as well as some animations.
By Thursday, we’ve got a new todo list:
nic – finish mason model + UV + texture (face and feet) – look into unity depth of field camera, building normal maps
ney – look sounds, asset modeling for the city
steel – new city with power ups
Guy - dead zone sideways (more) and dive (less), apply seperate light source to Mason and the city, swap in models/animations
Steven - calibrate thingy, loading screen
Tim - apply normal maps to buildings, placeholder air vent power up things

My to do list after play texting

Since the different inferaces cant be finalized until we have final levels (with render for background images) I am now on the task of looking for sounds.

We will definitely need some form of backing game track as well as wind and gliding sounds.

I am now also going to start modelling assets for our cities - such as over bridges, billboards etc. This will add a lot to the look of the city. Also once Emily has generated the cities, I will help her to model the buildings and add in detail etc.

Mason with the textures

Nicky played around with the concrete textures that I found for her. I reckon they look really cool considering this is just a quick example of what they texture of mason may look like.

Level Select Page

Is not the design concept that we will use - just wanted to get the idea across that this page will include city images and you will be able to see all cities.

Sketch - Level Select

Personally like the second sketch as I feel it would be a nice touch for the user to be able to swipe across the screen to select the next level.

Level Select / City Map

Because we are now doing levels instead of just one level, we want to make the level select menu like a map of the city.

I have been googling game maps to get an idea of how we might put this together.

I feel this will be one of the last things we put together as I reckon it would be cool to use the actual levels as the map. But I will mock something up.

Paused Menu assets

Given Steven Assets for Main Screen

Screen Shot of game on iPhone with default unity button.

Paused Screen

Showed Nicky and Emily. Decided we like it saying paused at the top.

Made a mock up of how the menu will appear over the game screen.

Paused Screen Options

To different options. Will see what the team likes best. Im not sure if we need it to say paused at the top or not. As the played would have clicked 'pause'. The game will be paused and faded out behind this menu.

Menu Layout

Main Menu Mock Up Assets

Sketches - Main Menu & Paused Screen

My to do list for player testing

Since I am doing User Interface designs, my job is to mock up some quick menus for our game. These include:

- Start screen (Main Menu)
- Level select screen (Map)
- Pause screen
- End screen (Level Complete)
- Death screen (You Lose)

Will begin by doing a couple of sketches for each page with different layouts. Then make some mock ups from there.

Obviously when I put together the proper final menus, I will use assets and renders from our actual city and game.

Been Away

I was away over the break so was unable to attend the group meetings that were held. The group have done well to get the game working on the ipad as well as on Nickys phone. I will now start doing my part by coming up with interface designs and once Emily has generated the city, I will help her model that.
